70+ Would You Rather Questions for Any Group

The trick with would you rather is that a bad question ends the conversation and a good one starts an argument that outlasts the car ride. Nobody wants to debate whether they would rather have a cat or a dog. Everybody wants to debate whether they would rather fight one horse sized duck or a hundred duck sized horses. I sorted these by how much trouble they cause. Start at the top with a group that does not know each other yet, and work down as people get comfortable. The section called The impossible ones has ended two of my family dinners early.

More jokes to try next

Before you go

Skip anything on this page that has an obvious right answer, even if I wrote it. A question is only doing its job when two reasonable people pick opposite sides and then have to explain themselves.

Questions people ask

How do you play would you rather?

One person reads a question with two options. Everyone answers, and nobody is allowed to say neither or both. The answers are the boring part. The reasons are the game.

What makes a good would you rather question?

Both options have to be genuinely tempting or genuinely awful. If one choice is obviously better, there is nothing to talk about.

Are these suitable for kids?

The first, fourth, and fifth sections work fine for children. For a set written specifically for younger kids, use our would you rather questions for kids instead.

How many questions do you need for a game night?

Fifteen to twenty is plenty for an hour. Groups spend far longer arguing about each one than you expect.

Can these be used as icebreakers?

That is what the work section is for. They tell you something real about a person without asking anything personal.
